GARC Chief Executive Officer, Professor Louis H. Nel during his presentation
In January 2017 GARC visited the Zanzibar project site to discuss the way forward with regards to maintaining and improving the rabies surveillance system that was established in July 2016.
During the course of the site visit, the Rabies Data Collector (RDC) was beta tested during a static point vaccination campaign in order to demonstrate the versatility of the data collection tool.
The vaccination/beta testing event lasted 30 minutes, during which 27 dogs were vaccinated against rabies, while all of the relevant data was captured in a quick and concise manner. The RDC data was used to show the exact location of all of the vaccinated animals, as well as the basic dog demographic data for the community.
