Dr. Ederlinda Malonzo from the Sorsogon Provincial Veterinary Office interviews children during the FGD.
A series of focus group discussions (FGDs) to assess the rabies corners installed last February was conducted in the central elementary schools of three municipalities. The schools were: Gubat South Central School, Gubat North Central School, Castilla East Central School, Cumadcad Central School, Pilar I Central School and finally, Pilar II Central School. Each grade level was represented by three students and the students were grouped in two: Grades 1 – 2 and Grades 4 – 6. We asked the students about how frequently they visited the rabies corner; what they liked or disliked about the rabies corner; what they found most memorable about the rabies corner; if they had suggestions for the improvement of the rabies corner; and we tested their knowledge about rabies. The results of the FGDs will be used to improve the rabies corners in schools. We are aiming to install rabies corners in more schools in Sorsogon at the end of September or on October.
