Staff from WHO help out during the Rabies Educator Certificate training in Ethiopia

Notes

In a joint team effort the CDC, Ohio state university and GARC are training the Ethiopian pubic health institute as well as other stakeholders such as the department of agriculture/veterinary services on rabies control. The August group did the REC and the AVC courses then a week of field practice. The intention was not necessarily to vaccinate dogs (which some where done) but to understand dog body language and the correct use of equipment so to catch and handle free roaming dogs humanely. On top of this training we advised on bite follow-up procedures and treatments. Luckily we found a, at the time, a suspected rabid dog on the streets which we were able to demonstrate the manner in which you could handle and euthanize a rabid dog humanely.
