A scene from Sorsogon Community Based Theater Group's production of "Tandok?" (Faith Healer) in Sorsogon, Philippines. RA 9482 is Republic Act 9482 or the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 in the Philippines.
An innovative approach to engage the community in rabies prevention is through community theater. GARC developed a play titled “Tandok?” (Faith Healer?) in collaboration with the Sorsogon Community-Based Theater Group (SCBTG) and Bicol University. The play aims to encourage people to go to Animal Bite Treatment Centers instead of traditional healers and tackles key messages on responsible pet ownership and animal bite management & prevention.
Performed in Tagalog (the local language) during town festivals, more than 700 villagers are estimated to have already watched the show.
The play was written by Bicol University’s Prof. Julio Mendoza and directed by Dan Razo of the SCBTG.
